During my time at Carnegie Mellon University, I was an active member of the student newspaper: The Tartan. I started as a copy editor and layout staff member, then worked as Layout Manager and a member of both the Editorial Board and Executive Committee.
I was in charge of the page design for the weekly print edition, as well as managing a staff of eight students who assisted me in creating easy-to-read but still aesthetically pleasing page designs. Furthermore, I communicated with other editors and writers to make sure the content was to their satisfaction. Sometimes this meant creating new graphics or writing articles on short notice before publication.
As an Editorial Board member, I wrote articles to convey the staff's perspective on important news and issues. As an Executive Committee member, I helped oversee new steps the organization would take to improve its public relations, internal organization, and general governance.
